Appointed Chairperson of the OBP Board in November 2023, Professor Peaceful Mabeta is a visionary research and innovation leader. With a strong track record in translational research and establishing income-generating science platforms, she drives the commercialisation of research and fosters vibrant innovation ecosystems.
Committed to fostering vibrant and sustainable innovation ecosystems, she consistently bridges the gap between scientific discovery and practical, societal impact, inspiring excellence across academia, industry, and policy domains.
A multiple-award recipient for research excellence and innovation, Prof Mabeta brings extensive board and management experience, underpinned by deep expertise in governance, strategic leadership, and policy development. She is a member of the Institute of Directors and well versed in key governance frameworks, including the Companies Act, PFMA, and King V.
Prof Mabeta is a highly acclaimed researcher, educator, and mentor with international experience, actively engaged in teaching, research review, outreach, and educational innovation. She is also Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria, responsible for research, lecturing to undergraduates supervising Honours and postgraduate students.
She has extensive board experience, holding leadership roles across SACNASP, Tshwane South TVET College, SA IUPS, and the Teach Each African Child Foundation, driving governance, HR, and equity initiatives.
Prof Mabeta holds a PhD and MSc in Veterinary Science, a BTech in Pharmaceutical Science, a BMedSci (Hons), and a BSc in Biochemistry. She has completed multiple certifications in management and governance, project management, labour relations, effective boards, and performance management. she has multidisciplinary technical expertise in blockchain, tumor microcirculation, and laboratory animal science.
