Dr Deenadayalen “Len” Konar, appointed to the OBP Board on 1 November 2023, is a versatile leader with extensive experience across listed, government, and private companies, as well as universities globally. He has led diverse sectors including financial services, IT, retail, manufacturing, mining, private equity, and government entities. Dr Konar is skilled in strategy development, financial systems, revenue growth, cost optimisation, and capital attraction, with strong communication and interpersonal skills in multicultural and multi-sector environments.
Dr Konar’s key accomplishments include leading auditing, risk, and compliance functions, turning around businesses to drive profitability, restoring investor confidence, executing strategic transformations, enhancing customer value, improving financial performance, and delivering expertise in financial management and corporate governance.
He also brings deep expertise in financial management, auditing, risk, and governance, supervises and mentors postgraduate students in accounting, auditing, leadership, and risk management. He assists in guiding boards and committees on finance, compliance, and strategy. He also contributes to corporate governance frameworks including King II–V. He also frequently leads presentations and facilitates workshops on governance, risk, ethics, and public finance management.
He has been an academic since 1978, lecturing and supervising graduate and executive students, refreshing curricula, publishing research, and presenting courses on board and committee effectiveness.
Dr Konar holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Durban-Westville, both with top Honours, is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa). He earned a Master of Accounting Sciences from the University of Illinois. He also holds a Doctorate of Commerce from the University of South Africa, with additional certifications in Tax Law, Electricity Tariffs, Risk Management Assurance, and Forensic Practice.
