Formalinised, aluminium hydroxide gel adsorbed polyvalent
suspension of Pasteurella haemolytica types 2, 5, 6, 9
and 15 bacteria for the control of Pasteurella infections
in sheep and goats.
Store the vaccine at a temperature of 4 °C to 8 °C,
in a refrigerator.
Do not use the vaccine after the expiry date printed on
the bottle. RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR USE
Sheep and goats of all ages are affected and the disease
usually causes different forms of pneumonia ("bontlong"
and "harslagsiekte") and Pasteurella bacteria
are also one of the causes of mastitis (blue udder). Pasteurella
infections are frequently accompanied by infections by
parainfluenza virus, mycoplasma organisms and diseases
such as chlamydiosis and "jaagsiekte" as well
as stress conditions such as drought and cold. In order
to obtain the best results with the vaccine these conditions
should also be combated. There are a great variety of
Pasteurella bacterial strains and only the most important
strains are included in the vaccine. Consequently the
vaccine will be ineffective in certain instances.
If problems are encountered a veterinarian should be consulted.
Special vaccines for specific strains, that are not included
in the standard vaccine, are obtainable from Onderstepoort
Biological Products. WARNINGS
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption
within 7 days of vaccination.
Vaccinate healthy animals only.
Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and
animals.
In exceptional cases Pasteurella vaccine may cause shock
reactions. A number of less valuable animals should therefore
be injected first and observed for one hour before the
whole herd is immunised.
Although this product has been extensively tested under
a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue
as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected,
seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for
at least 15 minutes. Do not use disinfectants or methylated
spirits for sterilising either syringes or needles. Use
a separate needle for each animal.
Shake the bottle well before use. Avoid exposure to high
temperatures and direct sunlight during inoculation. Depending
on circumstances, animals may be immunised at any age
from two weeks.
Animals which are inoculated for the first time must receive
two injections with an interval of four weeks. A booster
injection
must be given 6 months later. Thereafter a single injection
should be given annually. DOSAGE:
Sheep and goats 2 ml subcutaneously EFFECTS
OF THE VACCINE
The vaccine causes virtually no reaction. A small lump
may, however, develop at the injection site and animals
may show
temporary lameness. If pregnant animals must be inoculated,
it is advisable to inject a few animals and observe them
for 30-
60 minutes before the whole flock is done.
Immunity develops approximately two weeks after the second
inoculation and protection lasts for about 6 months but,
however,
cannot be guaranteed in all animals. PACKING
Available in bottles of 50 doses. |
