Vaccines - 2113
A live freeze-dried virus suspension for the prophylactic immunisation of sheep and goats against orf
(Contagious pustular dermatitis).

Store the vaccine in a refrigerator at a temperature of 4 °C to 8 °C.
Do not use the vaccine after the expiry date printed on the bottle
.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
This product is a suspension of virulent orf viruses, applied to induce planned infection of the animal at
a site on the body where no harm will be done.
Immunise ewes at least four weeks before lambing. Young lambs, one week or older, may be vaccinated.
WARNINGS
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination.
Vaccinate healthy animals only.
Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
Caution should be exercised when handling the vaccine as human infection can occur by the virus
entering through wounds or scratches in the skin, particularly on the hands and forearms.
Do not apply the vaccine in the groin area as this may lead to infection of the udder or the scrotum.
Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions failure
may occur due to various reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the
registration holder.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use only as directed.
The active ingredient of the vaccine is in the form of a powder or a pellet in a small bottle. By means
of a sterile syringe transfer the 10 ml sterile glycerine water over to the bottle containing the freeze-dried
vaccine. Mix until all the powder is dissolved. On the bare skin of the armpit of the animal, using a sterile
needle, make 2 - 3 parallel scratches in the skin deep enough to cause redness but not to cause bleeding.
The suspension is applied by dipping the small brush provided into the vaccine and dabbing it over the
parallel scratches.
Avoid exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight.

EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE

After approximately three days some swelling and redness will be seen at the site of inoculation and a
scab will develop.
Immunity is of short duration and cannot be guaranteed in all animals. Annual vaccination is recommended.
