Vaccines - 1241

Formalinised aluminium hydroxide gel adsorbed suspension of Actinomyces pyogenes bacteria and
toxoid for the control of A. pyogenes infections in cattle, sheep and goats.
Store the vaccine at a temperature of 4 °C to 8 °C, in a refrigerator.
Do not use after the expiry date printed on the bottle.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
Abscesses and other purulent infections may be caused by a variety of bacteria. On farms where such
infections are prevalent it is advisable to have the cause confirmed by a veterinary laboratory.
Since the vaccine only affords temporary and partial immunity it is advisable to apply the vaccine 6 -
8 weeks before the usual or anticipated occurrence of infection. Judicious administration of the vaccine
should be accompanied by other appropriate control measures and stock owners are urged to consult
a veterinarian in this respect. The vaccine will not afford protection against the common forms of
staphylococcal and streptococcal mastitis.

WARNINGS
Do not slaughter animals for human consumption within 7 days of vaccination.
Vaccinate only healthy animals.
Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
Although this product has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure
thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary
advice and notify the registration holder.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use only as directed.
Sterilise syringes and needles by boiling in water for at least 15 minutes. Do not use disinfectants or
methylated spirits for sterilising either syringes or needles. Use a separate sterile needle for each animal.
Shake the bottle well before filling the syringe and avoid exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight
during inoculation. In cattle, injections should preferably be given under the loose skin in the neck region.
Animals may be immunised at any age from 2 weeks.
When animals are inoculated for the first time they should receive a series of 3 injections at 10 day
intervals. A single booster injection should be given every 6 months thereafter.
DOSAGE:
Cattle older than 6 months : 10 ml subcutaneously.
Adult sheep, goats and calves under 6 months : 5 ml subcutaneously.
Lambs under 2 months : 2 ml subcutaneously.

EFFECTS OF THE VACCINE
Because of the large dose which is required, local swellings and lameness may occur. If this happens
the interval between the injections may be increased to 14 days. It is also not advisable to drive
animals over long distances shortly after administration of the vaccine.
Immunity is maximal 14-
28 days after the third injection and lasts for approximately 6 months but, however, cannot be guaranteed
in all animals.

PACKING
Available in bottles of 100 ml.
